Greetings,
A number of our partner/sponsors have inquired about mailing packages to the Faith In Deeds Children's Home. We have attached a giving you some guidelines and procedures that we have put together from our own sending experiences. Mailing a package is quite expensive, which is why we raise funds and recommend cash donations for materials that can be purchased within the local communities of the Children's Home. This is not only more practical, but it enables the Children's Home to support local businesses. This makes the home an asset to the local economy and an even more acceptable part of the community.
However, the children get a thrill out of the special and personal gifts that do come in packages from the USA, usually (but not always) things not easily found locally. One of our partner/sponsors sends a package a couple of times a year with items like squirt guns, various kinds of (deflated) balls, jump ropes, boxing gloves, etc. Another good item to send actually is quality used clothing (places like Good Will can be a great source) - well constructed items like blue jeans are great as they tend to last so much longer than the less rugged materials that typical local clothing is made from.
When sending cards and letters, it's a fun thing to stick a small page of stickers into the envelope (the kind available at craft stores). As you develop a relationship with your child and discover their interests, you can generally find stickers that match their interests (dogs, cats, airplanes, cars, jungle, etc.)
We will soon be offering you an opportunity to have a limited amount of your letters translated into Telegu (local language) by a volunteer who lives here in the Grand Rapids area. As soon as we get a system worked out, we will let you know the details.
May God continue to bless you as you are such a blessing to the children.
In Christ,
Ken Sweers
